Craftsmanship & Detail
The cabinet is constructed from carefully selected mahogany displaying rich colour, depth and attractive natural figuring throughout. Its highly distinctive serpentine outline is formed by the bowed outer sections, flowing moulded cornice and shaped lower cupboards, giving the piece exceptional visual presence without appearing overly heavy.
The upper display section is centred by a striking glazed door incorporating elegant intersecting curved glazing bars and delicate carved ornament. Flanking this are two bowed glazed compartments with glazed sides, mirrored backs and glass shelves, allowing light to enter from several angles and providing an excellent setting for porcelain, glassware, silver, books or decorative collections.
Beneath the display section are three useful drawers retaining attractive circular brass handles. The lower cabinet provides generous concealed storage behind three cupboard doors, with the outer doors displaying beautifully arranged figured mahogany veneers.
The central cupboard door forms the principal decorative feature, enriched with a hand-painted classical scene depicting figures within a dramatic landscape. Fine painted flowers, scrolling stems, satinwood stringing and crossbanded borders frame the composition and add individuality to the cabinet.
At 158cm wide, this is a substantial statement piece suitable for a dining room, drawing room, library, entrance hall or luxury contemporary interior. Its combination of display space, concealed storage, decorative painting and elegant proportions gives it enduring practical and collector appeal.
