Description

A fine late 19th-century French Vernis Martin bombe commode, richly veneered and adorned with hand-painted romantic panels, framed by finely cast gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts, circa 1880.

The commode is surmounted by a shaped breccia marble top in warm cream, rose and honey tones. The façade features a beautifully executed Vernis Martin scene depicting elegant figures within a pastoral setting, enclosed by scrolling ormolu mounts of excellent quality. Further gilt bronze mounts enrich the corners, legs and apron, enhancing the sculptural bombe form.

The interior comprises two deep drawers, clean and smoothly functioning, offering practical storage while retaining strong decorative presence. A refined and decorative piece, ideal for formal interiors, collectors of French furniture, or as a statement commode in a luxury setting.
