Craftsmanship & Detail

The cabinet is beautifully veneered in richly figured kingwood displaying warm colour and elegant grain throughout, framed by finely cast ormolu mounts that add classical refinement and decorative contrast. The upper section features glazed doors and side panels together with glass shelving, allowing decorative objects and collections to be viewed from multiple angles. Below, the central Vernis Martin panel depicts a finely executed romantic pastoral scene, complemented by additional decorative painted panels to the sides. Raised on graceful cabriole legs beneath a shaped top, the cabinet reflects the influence of Louis XV design and stands as a highly decorative and practical example of late 19th century French furniture.

Condition Report

This vitrine is presented in good antique condition consistent with its age and quality. The kingwood veneers remain sound overall with the natural warm patination associated with a well-preserved 19th century piece. The Vernis Martin painted panels remain intact and display rich colour and decorative detail throughout, with age-related crazing and slight darkening to the varnish entirely consistent with authentic antique lacquer decoration.

The ormolu mounts are all present and retain good original gilding with attractive natural patination and no significant losses of note. The glazing remains complete to the doors and side panels, while the glass shelves are present and the interior lining remains in good order. The lower door opens and closes correctly.
