Craftsmanship & Detail

Each candelabrum rises from a square wood plinth applied with diamond stud mounts to each face, through a pierced crown base enclosing a turned ball finial, to a barley-twist stem with Gothic lancet arch supports rising to five scrolling candle arms. Each arm terminates in a tulip-form sconce with gadrooned drip pan - crisp, well-cast, and intact throughout. The Gothic Revival vocabulary is applied with consistency and skill: the crown base, lancet arches, barley-twist column, and tulip sconces all speak a coherent architectural language.

Condition Report

Both candelabra present in good honest condition consistent with their age. They have developed a warm, deep patina throughout - areas of darker oxidisation are visible in the recesses of the casting and to the sconces. Some residual candle wax is present in the sconces, consistent with use.

The casting integrity is sound on both examples - the lancet arch supports, barley-twist stems, crown bases, and tulip sconces are all intact with no breaks or repairs noted across either candelabrum. All ten arms are present and secure. The wood plinths are sound on both examples, with minor surface marks and edge wear consistent with age. The applied diamond stud mounts are all present on both bases. A well-matched pair in comparable condition.

Additional Notes

  • All ten candle arms present and secure across both candelabra
  • Casting integrity sound - no breaks or repairs noted
  • Warm deep patina with natural oxidisation in recesses
  • Wood plinths sound with all diamond stud mounts present
