Craftsmanship & Detail

The cast iron urns retain a richly weathered red-painted surface with attractive tonal variation, surface wear and natural patination acquired through years of outdoor use. Their deeply modelled fluting and gadrooned decoration remain clearly defined, giving the pair excellent visual depth and classical character.

Each urn is raised on a shaped socle above a substantial square base, which rests securely upon a complementary stone pedestal. The pale pedestals are square in section and decorated on each side with recessed rectangular panels, stepped mouldings and broad projecting tops.

The contrast between the warm red cast iron and naturally weathered pale stone creates a particularly effective architectural composition. Together, the urns and pedestals have sufficient scale and presence to frame an entrance, gateway, terrace or formal garden path.

They would also work exceptionally well as focal points within a courtyard, conservatory, orangery or landscaped garden, either planted or displayed empty as sculptural garden ornaments.

Complete matching pairs of antique garden urns with appropriately proportioned pedestals are increasingly difficult to source. Their classical design, substantial construction and naturally developed patina make this pair especially appealing to collectors, landscape designers and owners of period properties.

Condition Report

Presented in very good antique condition with expected weathering, surface wear and patination consistent with 19th-century garden ornament and prolonged outdoor use.

The fluted and gadrooned decoration remains well defined. Minor casting irregularities, marks and small areas of wear are present, as expected.

Both urns and pedestals remain substantial and suitable for continued decorative garden use. Due to their age, material and considerable weight, they should be handled and positioned with appropriate care.

Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition report.
