Craftsmanship & Detail

The upper section features elegant glazed astragal doors opening to adjustable shelving, while below the traditional fall-front bureau reveals a beautifully fitted interior arrangement of pigeonholes, small drawers, and a central cupboard, offering excellent practicality whilst retaining authentic Georgian character. The richly figured mahogany displays exceptional flame grain across the drawer fronts and writing fall, enhanced by a warm deep patina developed over more than two centuries. The dentil cornice, bracket feet, brass fittings, and balanced proportions all reflect the refined craftsmanship associated with quality George III English furniture of the mid-18th century.

Condition Report

The bureau bookcase is presented in good antique condition commensurate with its age of approximately 260 years. The mahogany throughout retains a rich deep patina of genuine age, with the flame-figured grain particularly well preserved across the drawer fronts and fall front. The dentil cornice remains intact and complete, while the gilded mirror door borders retain their original gilding with attractive age-related patination.

The fitted interior remains complete with all pigeonholes, small drawers, and central cupboard present and functional. The fall front opens and closes correctly on its brass quadrant stays, and the five graduated base drawers run smoothly. The brass handles, escutcheons, and bracket feet are all in good order. Honest age-related wear and patination are present throughout, entirely appropriate for a genuine 18th century piece of this quality and authenticity.
