Below, a single drawer reveals a writing surface, the whole raised on elegant cabriole legs terminating in gilt bronze sabots. The cabinet is surmounted by a shaped kingwood top centred with a crisply modelled gilt bronze mascaron mount - a detail characteristic of high-quality Parisian cabinetmaking of the period. The richly figured kingwood veneers and finely cast gilt bronze mounts throughout place this piece firmly in the upper tier of late 19th century French cabinet furniture.
