Description

Overview

An exceptional 19th century French side cabinet by Maison Millet of Paris, executed in beautifully figured kingwood veneers and enriched with finely chased gilt bronze mounts of outstanding quality. Maison Millet, founded in 1853 by Théodore and Blaise Millet, was renowned for producing furniture of the highest quality - frequently exhibited at major international expositions and widely regarded as one of the leading Parisian furniture makers of the period.

Key Features

Maker: Maison Millet, Paris - founded 1853
Beautifully figured kingwood veneers in refined geometric parquetry pattern
Carefully book-matched panels with elegant cross-banding throughout
Gently serpentine form
Richly veined red marble top
High quality gilt bronze mounts - finely modelled masks, scrolling foliage, corner mounts and sabots
Two doors opening to a shelved interior
Graceful cabriole legs with gilt bronze feet

Craftsmanship & Detail

The carefully book-matched kingwood panels are arranged in a refined geometric parquetry pattern, framed by elegant cross-banding - the gently serpentine form complemented by a richly veined red marble top that provides a striking contrast to the warm tones of the timber. The gilt bronze mounts - finely modelled masks, scrolling foliage, corner mounts, and sabots - are crisply cast and retain a rich original gilded finish entirely consistent with the production standards of Maison Millet. The two doors open to reveal a shelved interior offering practical storage while maintaining the cabinet's elegant proportions. Raised on graceful cabriole legs with gilt bronze feet, the cabinet presents a harmonious balance of luxury and refinement that defines the very best of 19th century Parisian cabinetmaking.

Purchased a beautiful 19th century French kingwood display cabinet from Hawkins Antiques. I am delighted with my purchase and would love to purchase from here again in the future! Lee provided excellent communication with very quick and thorough responses. Delivery was arranged extremely quickly and the delivery duo did a brilliant job up a narrow staircase, getting the cabinet into position safely and without issue. Highly recommend Lee and all at Hawkins Antiques!

We purchased a table from Hawkins Antique and it is absolutely stunning and a mint condition! Delivery was very fast and the delivery team were fantastic and really went the extra mile to get the table into the house - it wasn't simple due to our narrow front door, but the guys managed to get it in, keeping the table safe along the way! Highly recommend - very happy! Made another purchase already!
