Overview

A fine antique rosewood chiffonier side cabinet in the William IV manner, circa 1830–1840. A piece of considerable quality - the richly figured rosewood veneer displaying the characteristic deep tonal variation and dramatic grain movement that defines the finest examples of the period.

  • Richly figured rosewood veneer throughout
  • Raised superstructure with gallery shelf on carved scrolled brackets
  • Central mirror plate with age-appropriate foxing
  • Three mirrored panel doors with reeded Ionic column pilasters

Craftsmanship & Detail

The upper section comprises a raised superstructure with a gallery-topped shelf supported on boldly carved scrolled brackets with acanthus detail, flanking a central mirror plate with appropriate foxing consistent with age. The lower section is fitted with three mirrored panel doors separated by reeded Ionic column pilasters on a substantial plinth base - the mirror panels reflecting light and adding considerable depth to the piece. An exceptionally decorative and practical piece, equally at home in a drawing room, dining room, or hallway.
