Craftsmanship & Detail
Each piece is united by a remarkably consistent decorative language, combining dark ebonised surfaces with pale contrasting inlay, fine geometric linework, floral ornament, classical urns and architectural spindle galleries.
The imposing triple wardrobe is centred by a full-length mirrored door and flanked by two tall panelled cupboard doors. Each outer door is enriched with an elaborate inlaid medallion surrounded by delicate foliate ornament, with further geometric inlay and swag decoration extending across the architectural upper section.
The dressing table provides extensive practical storage through a central frieze drawer and two banks of graduated drawers. Above, a tall central mirror is framed by curved supports, spindle galleries and elevated side drawers, with smaller mirror plates positioned beneath.
The marble-topped washstand is particularly decorative, fitted with three frieze drawers, twin cupboards and a broad white marble surface. Its raised gallery incorporates a series of colourful botanical tiles beneath an architectural spindle crest, while the cupboard doors are decorated with finely inlaid classical urns enclosed within foliate wreaths.
The monumental bed forms the visual centrepiece of the suite. Its towering canopy is supported by substantial uprights and crowned by an arched spindle gallery. The bed retains pleated peach-coloured canopy drapery, an upholstered headboard and a deeply architectural footboard decorated with matching line inlay and Neoclassical ornament.
The bedside pot cupboard continues the suite’s decorative scheme with inlaid geometric borders and a classical urn motif to the panelled door. The freestanding towel rail is formed with turned supports, curved feet and multiple horizontal rails.
Complete Victorian bedroom suites of this scale and decorative unity are increasingly difficult to source. This remarkable ensemble would be particularly suited to a country house, period residence, boutique hotel, film set or distinctive interior design project.
