Craftsmanship & Detail
The chandelier is formed around a deep octagonal frame, with each side enriched by finely carved scrolling foliage and architectural moulding. A dentil-cut upper border and scalloped lower edge create additional shadow and depth, particularly when the chandelier is viewed from beneath.
Its most distinctive feature is the series of sculptural female portrait masks positioned around the outer framework. Each figure is individually modelled with flowing hair and draped shoulders, giving the chandelier an ecclesiastical, baronial and distinctly historic character.
Eight candle-style light fittings are positioned around the perimeter. Sweeping carved oak supports rise from the body towards a central foliate crown, their profiles highlighted by restrained gilt-lined decoration that contrasts subtly against the dark, naturally aged timber.
The oak has developed a warm, varied surface with rich colour and visible grain, while the deeply carved ornament displays the individual character associated with late Victorian craftsmanship.
