Description

An exceptional antique English satinwood demi-lune commode, dating from circa 1900, beautifully decorated throughout with finely executed hand-painted classical panels, floral swags and neoclassical ornament.

The serpentine demi-lune form is richly veneered in satinwood of outstanding colour and figure, centred by a painted classical roundel depicting mythological figures, framed by floral garlands and ribbon motifs. Further painted panels adorn the sides, all executed in a refined neoclassical palette typical of the Edwardian period.

The commode is fitted with a central drawer above a cupboard enclosing shelved storage, making it both decorative and practical. Raised on elegant tapering legs with painted detailing, the piece displays excellent proportions and strong visual presence.

A highly decorative and rare form, ideal for use as a statement side cabinet, hall commode or drawing room piece.
