A fine Regency period bookcase cabinet, circa 1815–1825, in mahogany with brass and ebony detailing throughout. In sixty-five years of sourcing British furniture, bookcases of this quality of ornamental detail - the brass frieze, the cast corner mounts, the ebonised columns - rarely present themselves at this price.

Craftsmanship & Detail

The cornice carries a full dentil moulding across the full width — each tooth precisely cut and evenly spaced - beneath which a continuous cast brass frieze of anthemion and interlaced vine ornament adds a band of gilded detail of almost architectural authority. The glazed upper doors carry cast brass corner mounts of real quality - shell and acanthus scroll compositions, each one identical and original. The lower section is where the piece becomes truly unusual: two substantial free-standing reeded columns flank the cupboard doors with a formality borrowed directly from Regency architecture - full columns standing free of the carcase, turned with precision and finished with real care. The interior is lined in warm cedar-toned pine with two adjustable shelves and notched shelf supports running the full height. The whole piece sits on original brass castors - all four present and functioning - confirming the age and completeness of what you are acquiring.

Mahogany throughout sound and stable with no repairs or significant losses. All brass mounts original and present with no replacements. Glazed doors open, close and lock correctly with original glass intact. Drawer opens and closes correctly with original handles. Cupboard doors open, close and lock correctly.

Original brass castors all present and functioning. Shelves present and stable. Age-related marks and surface wear entirely consistent with a genuine Regency piece. Structurally sound throughout - ready to use immediately upon delivery.
