Craftsmanship & Detail
The elaborate upper section is centred by a substantial bevelled mirror beneath a deeply moulded cornice and raised gallery. Above the mirror are intricately pierced panels, carved floral ornament and gold-toned textured details, creating a richly layered architectural composition.
Flanking the central mirror are two projecting display compartments of particularly unusual design. Each incorporates finely turned supports, pierced fretwork, spindle galleries and luxurious gold-toned textured backing, with smaller bevelled mirror panels positioned beneath. These elevated compartments provide an impressive setting for the display of porcelain, silver, sculpture or decorative objects.
The lower section is equally accomplished, with a broad polished serving surface above a bow-fronted central display area framed by carved columns and spindle galleries. Glazed cupboards to either side feature geometric glazing bars and textured glass interiors, while the lower central cupboard is decorated with boldly carved rosette panels.
Further details include carved foliate borders, pierced corner brackets, turned supports, open lower shelves and carefully balanced curved and rectilinear elements. The mahogany displays excellent depth of colour and a mature patina developed over more than a century.
