Description

Overview

A superb antique French Louis XVI style gilt brass fireplace fire screen, beautifully decorated with ribbon-tied garlands, flaming torch finials, laurel wreath detail, and finely cast neoclassical ornament. The elegant gilt brass frame and decorative mesh centre give this piece excellent presence, making it a refined feature for a period fireplace or luxury interior.

Key Features

  • Antique French fireplace fire screen
  • Louis XVI style design
  • Decorative gilt brass frame
  • Ribbon-tied garlands and floral wreath crest
  • Flaming torch finials
  • Central trophy motif with musical and classical attributes
  • Fine mesh fire guard panel
  • Acanthus-cast scrolling supports
  • Elegant hoof feet
  • Ideal for a period fireplace, country house, townhouse, or decorative interior

Craftsmanship & Detail

The fire screen is richly cast with neoclassical decoration throughout, including ribbon swags, laurel leaves, floral wreaths, torch finials, and a finely modelled central trophy motif. The shaped frame has excellent movement and balance, with decorative scrolling supports terminating in hoof feet, giving the piece both elegance and stability.

The warm aged gilt finish works beautifully with the detailed casting, creating a highly decorative fireplace accessory with strong French Louis XVI influence. It would look superb placed in front of a fireplace or used as a decorative statement piece within a refined period or classical interior.

Purchased a beautiful 19th century French kingwood display cabinet from Hawkins Antiques. I am delighted with my purchase and would love to purchase from here again in the future! Lee provided excellent communication with very quick and thorough responses. Delivery was arranged extremely quickly and the delivery duo did a brilliant job up a narrow staircase, getting the cabinet into position safely and without issue. Highly recommend Lee and all at Hawkins Antiques!

We purchased a table from Hawkins Antique and it is absolutely stunning and a mint condition! Delivery was very fast and the delivery team were fantastic and really went the extra mile to get the table into the house - it wasn't simple due to our narrow front door, but the guys managed to get it in, keeping the table safe along the way! Highly recommend - very happy! Made another purchase already!
