Craftsmanship & Detail
The frieze is particularly attractive, decorated with continuous floral garlands and ribboned swags in finely cast gilt bronze. Further decorative mounts appear at the shoulders of the legs, with narrow gilt-bronze ornament continuing vertically towards the feet.
The warm timber tones provide an elegant contrast with the aged gilt-metal decoration, while the shaped outline gives the table a softer and more decorative profile than a conventional rectangular vitrine.
The glazed top lifts to reveal the fitted interior compartment beneath, allowing prized objects to be displayed while remaining protected. This practical function, combined with its slender form, makes the table especially suitable for drawing rooms, bedrooms, hallways, dressing rooms or collectors’ interiors.
At just 58 cm wide and 32 cm deep, the table offers strong decorative presence without occupying excessive floor space.
Its combination of kingwood, mahogany, gilt-bronze decoration and glazed display storage gives this late-19th-century French piece enduring collector and interior-design appeal.
