Overview

An exceptional antique French gilt bronze candelabra in the elegant Louis XV Rococo style, late 19th to early 20th century. The finely cast scrolling arms and foliate detailing rise from a beautifully shaped lapis lazuli column - the deep blue stone contrasting richly with the warm gilt bronze finish throughout.

Key Features

French Louis XV Rococo style - late 19th to early 20th century
Finely cast gilt bronze scrolling arms with foliate detailing
Beautifully shaped lapis lazuli column
Rich contrast between deep blue stone and warm gilt bronze
Natural variation within the lapis lazuli adding character and authenticity

Craftsmanship & Detail

This impressive candelabra showcases the decorative opulence associated with the finest late 19th and early 20th century French bronzework. The natural variation within the lapis lazuli column and the detailed ormolu castings highlight the quality and character of the piece — the kind of combination of precious stone and gilt bronze that defines the most ambitious decorative objects of the period. An outstanding centrepiece equally at home in a formal dining room, on a console in an entrance hall, or flanking a drawing room mantelpiece.

Purchased a beautiful 19th century French kingwood display cabinet from Hawkins Antiques. I am delighted with my purchase and would love to purchase from here again in the future! Lee provided excellent communication with very quick and thorough responses. Delivery was arranged extremely quickly and the delivery duo did a brilliant job up a narrow staircase, getting the cabinet into position safely and without issue. Highly recommend Lee and all at Hawkins Antiques!

Our house was built in 1820, so I have been slowly acquiring furniture from the same period. The piece is perfect & arrived very quickly too.

We purchased a table from Hawkins Antique and it is absolutely stunning and a mint condition! Delivery was very fast and the delivery team were fantastic and really went the extra mile to get the table into the house - it wasn't simple due to our narrow front door, but the guys managed to get it in, keeping the table safe along the way! Highly recommend - very happy! Made another purchase already!
