A fine antique French burr walnut jardinière, dating to the late 19th century and crafted in the elegant Louis XV style, combining decorative impact with practical use.

Beautifully veneered in richly figured burr walnut, this antique planter stands on graceful cabriole legs and is adorned with high-quality gilt bronze ormolu mounts, including scrolling foliate decoration and detailed corner mounts. The shaped frieze and refined proportions reflect classic French craftsmanship.

Condition Note: This jardinière presents in good antique condition and is honest in the way that the best antiques are - it has clearly been used and enjoyed, and the piece is all the better for it. The burr walnut veneer is largely sound and retains excellent figure and colour throughout, with minor surface wear and a small number of veneer blemishes commensurate with age. These are entirely in keeping with a piece of this period and do not detract from the overall presentation.

The ormolu mounts are present and complete, retaining good gilding with natural patination. The original metal liner shows surface oxidation and patination consistent with genuine use as a jardinière - entirely expected and in no way affecting function. The cabriole legs are firm and stable. All four original ormolu sabots are present and intact - a point worth noting, as these are frequently missing on pieces of this type.
