ENGLISH OAK · EDWARDIAN · c.1910

In sixty-five years of trading, a dresser of this scale, this patina, and this completeness rarely stays with us long.

There is a particular quality of light that old English oak holds - a depth of colour that no new timber can replicate and no restorer can fake. It is built only by time: decades of smoke, beeswax, and daily use settling into the grain until the wood seems to glow from within. This Edwardian dresser, made around 1910 and now carrying over a century of that warmth, has it in abundance.

At 170cm wide and 206cm tall, this is a dresser that fills a room with presence rather than simply occupying space. The open plate rack rises to a boldly moulded cornice - deep, confident, and unapologetic in its proportions. The shaped scroll supports to each side of the rack are a characteristic touch of the period's country craftsmanship: practical as structure, decorative as form. The plate grooves are cut cleanly and spaced generously - wide enough for substantial pieces, deep enough to hold them securely.

Look at the first photograph and you will understand immediately what this dresser is for. Loaded with blue and white porcelain against that deep oak ground, it becomes something more than furniture. It becomes the reason a room exists.

The base is equally considered. Three drawers run across the top above the central bank, each retaining its original turned brass knob. Below, two further banks of drawers flank the central column - six additional drawers in all - with two large panelled cupboards to the left and right, their arched fielded panels speaking directly to the Georgian tradition the Edwardian maker was consciously continuing. The interior shot confirms what the exterior promises: generous, well-built, practical storage with no losses and no repairs.

This is a piece that works in a farmhouse kitchen, a country dining room, a period interior, or a contemporary space that needs anchoring with something genuine. It will not be found again at this scale and in this condition at this price.
