Craftsmanship & Detail

Each table is beautifully crafted in dense hardwood with finely carved open fretwork friezes featuring scrolling foliage and decorative pierced detail. The elegant bamboo-form legs and stretchers reflect traditional Chinese furniture design and add refinement and visual balance throughout the set. The graduated proportions allow the four tables to neatly nest together when not in use, while also offering excellent versatility as occasional or side tables. The rich dark polished finish highlights the depth of the wood grain together with the quality of the carving, creating a highly decorative and practical set suited to both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Condition

Condition Report

This nest of tables is presented in very good antique condition consistent with its age and quality. The hardwood remains sound throughout on all four tables with no structural issues, the joints are firm, and each table stands level and stable. The carved fretwork friezes remain complete throughout with no significant losses to the pierced carving, a particularly important point given the delicate nature of open fretwork decoration.

The finish retains an attractive dark polish with the natural patination acquired over many years of use. The tops display only minor surface wear including light scratching and tonal variation consistent with age, adding character and authenticity to the set. The bamboo-form legs and stretchers remain intact and undamaged across all four tables. An honest description from a specialist dealer with over 60 years of family experience.

Additional Notes

  • Hardwood frames sound and structurally stable throughout
  • Carved fretwork friezes complete with no significant losses
  • Rich dark polished finish with attractive aged patina
  • Bamboo-form legs and stretchers intact across the full set

We purchased a table from Hawkins Antique and it is absolutely stunning and a mint condition! Delivery was very fast and the delivery team were fantastic and really went the extra mile to get the table into the house - it wasn't simple due to our narrow front door, but the guys managed to get it in, keeping the table safe along the way! Highly recommend - very happy! Made another purchase already!
