Why Hawkins Antiques?

Description

Overview

An elegant antique Ansonia New York gilt bronze crystal regulator mantel clock, dating to circa 1880, housed within a highly decorative Rococo Revival style case.

Manufactured by the renowned Ansonia Clock Company of New York, this fine late nineteenth-century clock combines mechanical interest with strong decorative presence. The gilt bronze mounted crystal case allows the movement, pendulum and internal mechanism to be admired from all sides.

Key Features

  • Antique Ansonia crystal regulator clock dating c.1880
  • Manufactured by Ansonia Clock Company, New York
  • Decorative gilt bronze / ormolu mounted case
  • Rococo Revival scrolling crest and floral decoration
  • Bevelled glass crystal case
  • Visible movement and pendulum assembly
  • Roman numeral dial
  • Highly decorative mantel or table clock
  • Ideal for collectors, interiors and decorative display

Craftsmanship & Detail

The case is richly decorated with scrolling gilt bronze ornament, floral casting and shaped Rococo Revival detailing. The transparent crystal body gives the clock a refined architectural quality, allowing the internal movement and pendulum to form part of the display.

The dial features Roman numerals and bears the Ansonia name, with the movement visible through the glazed case. This combination of mechanical detail and decorative gilt bronze work makes the clock a striking object for a mantelpiece, console table, desk or collector’s cabinet.

Interior Appeal

This clock offers excellent decorative presence despite its modest size. It would suit a period interior, study, library, drawing room or curated decorative scheme, adding warmth, history and antique character.

We purchased a table from Hawkins Antique and it is absolutely stunning and a mint condition! Delivery was very fast and the delivery team were fantastic and really went the extra mile to get the table into the house - it wasn't simple due to our narrow front door, but the guys managed to get it in, keeping the table safe along the way! Highly recommend - very happy! Made another purchase already!
