A fine Regency period flame mahogany drop-leaf sofa table, circa 1830. The Regency period produced furniture of extraordinary confidence, and this table displays every hallmark of the style at its most accomplished - the gadrooned moulding, twin spiral rope-twist columns, and original brass lion's paw castors combining to create a piece of complete decorative integrity.

Craftsmanship & Detail

The drop-leaf top is edged with crisp gadrooned moulding that runs without interruption across the top, frieze and platform base — a detail that lesser examples often apply inconsistently. Here it gives the piece a rare visual unity, as though carved from a single intention rather than assembled from parts. The twin spiral rope-twist columns are in exceptional condition, rising from a shaped platform base supported on four elegantly splayed sabre legs terminating in the detail collectors most hope to find intact: original brass lion's paw castors, all four present, all four functional. These were not standard fittings - they were chosen. Equally at home as a sofa table behind a settee, a writing surface in a study, or a statement console against a wall.

Flame mahogany retains original colour, figuring and two-century patina throughout. Gadrooned moulding crisp and intact - consistent across top, frieze and base. Rope-twist columns in excellent condition with no losses, repairs or restoration noted.

All four original brass lion's paw castors present and fully functional. Both drawers open and close correctly with original brass ring pulls. Structurally sound throughout - ready to use immediately upon delivery.
