The top and frieze are adorned with delicate painted garlands and classical motifs, all set against a rich mahogany ground - the original hand-painted decoration applied with a lightness and refinement characteristic of the finest English painted furniture of the period. The drop-leaf form, flanked by a single frieze drawer, allows the piece to be used either compactly or fully extended, while the four slender tapering legs terminating in original castors give it an elegant and well-resolved stance.
