Joseph-Emmanuel Zwiener

Joseph-Émmanuel Zwiener (1849-1895) was a renowned cabinetmaker of German origin who established himself as one of the leading ébénistes (cabinetmakers) in Paris during the late 19th century. His work is celebrated for its exceptional craftsmanship, intricate designs, and the luxurious use of materials, epitomizing the elegance and opulence of the Belle Époque period.

Born in Germany, Zwiener moved to Paris to pursue his career, recognizing the city as the epicenter of fine furniture making. He quickly gained a reputation for his skill and artistry, establishing his workshop on Rue de la Roquette. Zwiener's pieces were heavily influenced by the styles of Louis XV and Louis XVI, and he became known for his ability to reinterpret these classic forms with a contemporary flair.

Zwiener's furniture is characterized by its elaborate marquetry, exquisite inlays, and the liberal use of ormolu (gilt-bronze) mounts.
